Day 1: I'm Tidying Up!
/Day 1: Category 1: My Clothing - March 1st, 2019
Started cleaning the first category around 7:30 pm and didn’t stop until about 2:15 am. Only got through tidying up my clothes and I felt I would never see the finish line for just that subcategory. I wasn’t sure I had enough energy to work on the next subcat UNTIL I touched my belt rack and then BAM! It was the MOST euphoric feeling like Angels were singing!
My belt rack was hidden in a corner on the inside back right side of our walk-in closet so I never could see my belt collection until I pull the holder out and even then, I could only see my belts “backwards”…because the belt rack could only be installed “one way”. It was the most annoying thing ever (did not spark joy). But after tidying up my scarves, I had made space for another area in the middle of the walk-in closet where I could FINALLY see my belt rack! It felt like such a win! I was ready to go to sleep with happy thoughts.
AHAs:
Wedding dress bye-bye. It’s been 7 years since I got married. I realize the thing that bugged me the most in my closet has been something I needed to get rid for a long time now. Not only because I can’t fit it anymore, but because it takes up so much space!
Properly discard work logo clothing. My work shirts: I have worked at my company for 15 years and collected free shirts/polos over the years. I realized some I kept them because of sentimental reasons (first time I did college recruiting, a new program roll out, etc.) but no longer fit these shirts. It was time to let them go (but properly through company’s recycling program). They told me I just needed to cut up the logo and then may place in the trash.
Shoe boxes are your best friends. Those shoe boxes really ARE good for storage! I already had storage equipment in my closet to separate my socks, bras, etc. but found the shoe boxes so much more useful to separate the spaces better! I am a total convert :).
I make an effort to fold my sleeping clothes! I found that days later (I’m coming back to this section on Day 6), because my closet was now so nice and organized, I was actually folding my sleeping clothes neatly in the morning and putting it in a corner so I can wear again later. Or if I had already worn clothes, I made an effort to put it in the hamper! It would bother me when things weren’t tidied up! Yay!
TOTAL TIME: 7 HOURS
